RollBack Rx is a powerful utility that enables home users and IT professionals alike to easily restore their PC to exactly how it was at a specific time before a system crash or other catastrophe.

RollBack Rx is different from most other backup software. Rather than periodically (and time-intensively) saving and re-saving all of your data, RollBack Rx takes continuous backup "snapshots" of your entire system. It happens silently in the background, uses minimal system resources, and requires only 2 to 3 seconds to complete a snapshot!

RollBack software seems very good except that it is not written anywhere what to do when your HD crashes and you have to install a new Hard disk. Then, we would like to be able to install everything back on the new empty HD....
Is there any possibility ?

I have been to the Horizon DataSys website and read all of the product specs, descriptions, and comparisons. It all sounds too good to be true, so I must be missing something.
When comparing to imaging software nothing is mentioned regarding hard disk failure or a virus damaging the MBR or something else requiring a reformat/restore situation. What about files that are physically erased? Are they saved somewhere? How does RollbackRx compare with those scenarios? That's what I would need as "disaster recovery" software. Or is it meant to be like the name implies, to just roll back changes..

You're right RollBack Rx is not a "traditional" imaging product. RollBack Rx keeps track of sector changes on the hard drive and writes it sector maps directly onto the hard drive at the physical layer. RollBack Rx sits below the Windows OS and this is why it is able to roll-back everything.

RollBack Rx is designed to meet the daily needs of users - who do not wish to spend hours reformating and re-imaging thier systems with ghost or acronis and the likes. RollBack Rx provides immediate recovery to any snapshot that has been taken.

RollBack Rx can recover from 98% of PC issues that relate to OS ans software changes. However, if your Hard Drive physically gets damaged - then all bets are off... In this case you would need to keep a bare-metal image of your system. We have a product that does image like Ghost. It is called Drive Cloner Rx. You can see it on our website.

Thanks Lyle for the quick response. That better answers my most of my questions, however being a rather technically nosy, I'd like a little more detailed information if you don't mind explaining it without releasing anything proprietary.

I'm guessing that the two approaches can be used simultaneously. For example, using Rollback Rx on a daily Mon-Sat, and imaging on a Sun. Correct ?

Lastly, you say the product " Rx keeps track of sector changes on the hard drive and writes it sector maps directly onto the hard drive". What do you mean by "keeping track" and "writing sector maps" ? Is it saving only changed sectors? If so, where is it writing them? If not to a hidden sector, then to a file withing the file system? I'm trying to understand how deleted files can be restored.

Again, thank you for all the info. I think I know enough now to purchase the product, I'd just like to understand a little about the "insides" so I can plan my recovery strategy.

You could run RollBack Rx and Cloning/imaging together. However, you will need to install RollBack Rx first and then your disk imaging solution. Both of these solutions need to write to the MBR (master boot record). Also, keep in mind that if you do choose to run your Disk imaging application on sunday; you will only be imaging your most current snapshot. The reason for this is that Disk imaging apps can only copy "what they can see". Therefore, the state in which your system is on Sunday - or the snapshot that you have you system on would be the state of your PC's image... The image will not contain the RollBack Rx applicaiton or its other snapshots.

RollBack save disk space by mapping out only changes that have been made since the previous snapshot; this is what is meant by tracking changes in the sectors.

I must say, Horizon DataSys has the most comprehensive help and information data readily available that I have ever seen. My compliments to you all.

I did read that since cloning was removed from RBRx that you now offer the Drive Cloner Rx at a discounted price of USD$9.95 (at time of purchase - online only). Since I just purchased RBRx, can I still partake of that offer ? That really sounds like the best overall solution, covering all aspects of completely securing a hard drive and it's data.

Hi,

Normally I would not post this lengthy email here, so if necessary we can deal with this privately offline via my email. I want to give Rollback RX a trial, however given the time constraints on this offer I figured I would not get a reply back quick enough via your support channels in order to respond to this offer. Thus my post here.

This is whats happening,

Every attempt I make to install Rollback RX, after download and unpacking the install files, after selecting Autorun, choosing Install from your Autorun process, immediately launchs another dialog box which says, "Another version of Rollback RX is installed on this computer installation cannot continue" However I have not trialed this Program before, furthermore there is no listing for Rollback RX in Programs List, nor does a search through the directory Program Files show any list for Rollback RX or Horizon. What is curious is that after rebooting my system post the install attempt, I notice ever so briefly a taskbar Icon which identifies as Rollback RX if hovered over, yet any attempts to click on it fails to launch the program. After about a minute the Rollback RX taskbar Icon goes away. I have searched the registry for the word "Rollback" or "RX" to no avail. Nothing is returned except references to the actual file location of the downloaded install file. I am at a loss at what to do next. I have downloaded the file twice to eliminate a corrupt install file. But my best guess is that the installer is responding to a failed install from one of my attempts to install,that your installer sees a problem or it thinks it is already installed and refuses to engage another install. Is there anything else you might suggest to troubleshoot.

I have a screen print of the errant dialog box but cannot send through this medium.

Win 7 Professional 64-Bit, I7 940, 12 Gigs,

Stumped in Nor Cal,
